Worry for Arsenal as Hector Bellerin in race against time to face Liverpool

Premier League giants Arsenal have this afternoon provided an update on the fitness of full-back Hector Bellerin.

Crystal Palace 2-2 Arsenal

Unai Emery’s Gunners are fresh off the back of seeing their hugely-impressive 11-match winning streak brought to an end by capital rivals Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Sunday’s clash saw the North Londoners fall behind on the stroke of half-time, to a Luka Milivojević penalty.

However, the visitors quickly put their dismal first-half display behind them following the interval, as a quickfire double from Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw Arsenal turn the game on its head.

Palace were not to be deterred, though, with an impressive all-round performance having eventually seen Roy Hodgson’s Eagles rewarded with an equalizer.

After Wilfried Zaha was adjudged to have been felled by Granit Xhaka in the away side’s box, Milivojević stepped up to calmly slot home his second of the day, in the process securing a hard-fought point for Palace.

Bellerin crocked

With their near record-equalling win-streak now behind them, Arsenal will look to regroup tomorrow night, when Unai Emery’s men welcome Blackpool to the Emirates for a League Cup Last-16 tie.

However, with the likes of Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny already set to miss out through injury, the Gunners have this evening confirmed that they will also be without the services of Hector Bellerin tomorrow night.

Spanish stopper Bellerin has played a crucial role in Arsenal’s fine form over recent weeks, starting all 10 of the club’s Premier League outings to this point in the season, and racking up 4 assists in the process.

However, he was replaced by Stephan Lichtsteiner at half-time of the Gunners’ matchup with Palace on Sunday.

While the reason for his exit was initially unclear, it was soon revealed that Bellerin had picked up an injury.

And Arsenal have this evening provided an update on the Spaniard’s issue, confirming that he has picked up a right thigh problem.

Liverpool doubt

As such, Bellerin will not feature in Arsenal’s squad to take on Blackpool.

However, while the former Barcelona man’s absence tomorrow night will not come as a major source of concern, further news that Bellerin could well miss his side’s crunch league clash with Liverpool next weekend will no doubt have fans of Arsenal sweating.

The official line from the Gunners is that the 23-year-old is ‘being assessed’ ahead of the clash in North London.

At present, though, it remains largely unclear what kind of chance Bellerin has of featuring versus Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying Reds.
