"Shambles", "Zero creativity" - Many Rangers fans have flagged up major Gerrard selection error
Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to Sunday’s semi-final defeat, and they’re praying Steven Gerrard has noticed a major error in his midfield selection.
Rangers have failed to score in their last two matches, drawing 0-0 with Spartak Moscow in the Europa League before a 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen on Sunday.
The semi-final defeat is particularly disappointing given the prospect of meeting their arch-rivals in the final, and the Gers were actually on top for most of the match.
While Gerrard’s side dominated though, they never really carved out anything for loan signing Umar Sadiq to feed on, managing just one shot on target.
Fans think this is due to Gerrard’s team selection, as Ryan Jack and Lassana Coulibaly started together both on Thursday and on Sunday.
The pair are both fantastic at breaking up play, but don’t really have the quality on the ball to pick out incisive forward passes.
This means the Gers struggle to break down organised defensive teams, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
I agree. I’d have moved Coulibaly back and removed Jack, I like Jack but I wasn’t impressed on Thursday or today.

I’d freshen up for Wed v Killie. Start Arfield Middleton & Halliday. Morelos back. Drop one of Jack/Coulibaly & Candeias.

We’ve missed Arfield last few games gives us that bit of creativity in midfield no need for jack and coulibaly in same team on a park like that against a team who didn’t want to attack suited them that we had they 2 playing

I don’t get the need for Jack and Coulibaly together on a massive pitch like Hampden. Can only imagine it’s because Arfield wasn’t fully fit. Zero creativity from either of them yesterday. I like Coulibaly, breaks play up well but he needs someone creative in there with him.

Jack and coulibaly starting together ❌ takes to much away fae the team ! If arfield was fit enough to make the bench then he’s Gotta be fit enough to start ! Shambles !

Also think Thursday night and yesterday show that having both Jack and Coulibaly in the same midfield doesn’t work. Neither play forward often enough & neither have played particularly well individually.

Jack and Coulibaly in the middle of the park doesn’t work, please stop it.
