Turning on their hero: 57% of Spurs fans polled would want Pochettino to make unthinkable change
According to reports in The Mirror earlier this month, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a summer swoop for Burnley stopper Nick Pope and Mauricio Pochettino looks to shake up his goalkeeping options.
The Mirror says that the north London outfit want to boost their home-grown quota and are eyeing a move for the highly-rated 26-year-old, who is currently on his way back from a dislocated shoulder he suffered in a Europa League tie against Aberdeen back in July.
However, when he does return the former Charlton Athletic keeper faces competition from Tom Heaton and Joe Hart for a spot in the starting XI, and if he doesn’t get the regular first-team football he had prior to his injury he could look for a way out of Turf Moor.
Meanwhile, Spurs have already used three different goalkeepers themselves this term in Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Paulo Gazzaniga, but with the former making more errors than usual and Vorm likely to go when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, it is clear that a new face is needed.
Lloris has been a hero for Tottenham fans throughout his time with the club but having been found guilty of a drink-driving offence as well as making high-profile errors against Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Despite those mistakes it would still be unthinkable for the 31-year-old captain to be dropped from the starting XI by Pochettino, and we decided to ask Spurs supporters to vote on our poll to tell us who they would want to see starting if their club signed Pope – a majority 57% wanted him between the sticks ahead of the 2018 World Cup winner.
