"A real leader", "Played with passion" - These Man Utd fans heap praise on former star

One of Manchester United’s most decorated players, Patrice Evra, announced his retirement from professional football to Gazzetta dello Sport (via BBC Sport) at the age of 38.

The former France international picked up five Premier League trophies in his time at Old Trafford, and played 379 games for the Red Devils after joining from AS Monaco in 2006.

After hearing the news of Evra’s retirement, United fans flooded to Twitter to pay tribute to their former charge and many were keen to wish the former left-back well for the future.

United supporters insisted that the Frenchman “played with passion” for the club and that he was a “real leader who took the club to heart”.

Indeed, many simply labelled Evra as a “legend” and lauded how he went from being a virtual unknown to “one of the greatest left-backs in Premier League history”.
