Reliable source claims ‘Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona is done’

As per a report from the highly-reliable Cat Radio this evening, Barcelona have secured an agreement to bring Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann to the Camp Nou this summer.

Saga

Manchester United’s chase of French forward Griezmann was one of the talking points of the early weeks of last summer’s transfer window, with Jose Mourinho having identified the 26-year-old as an ideal addition to his attacking ranks at Old Trafford.

However, any potential move was put on hold when Griezmann himself confirmed that he would not leave Atletico in the midst of their transfer ban, with the Red Devils having since opted to bring in Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez instead as a result.

Jose Mourinho recently confirmed that United will not be targeting attacking reinforcements this summer, with the Manchester giants set to focus their attentions on midfield and defensive additions.

Release clause

This has led to mounting reports that Barcelona are now viewed as the clear leading contenders for Griezmann’s signature, with the Blaugrana having long been touted as a potential destination for the French international.

Griezmann’s 200 million Euro Atletico release clause is reportedly set to drop to 100 million Euro at the end of this season, making a potential deal for any and all suitors markedly more realistic.

Done deal?

In additon, adding weight to the Griezmann to Barca rumours over the weekend was a report from journalist Albert Roge, which ensured that a deal to send Atletico’s star man to the Camp Nou this summer was ‘100%’ certain:

Rough translation:

‘It is closed, yes, although obviously neither of the two parties will confirm it. At Sport we have already been informed of the private agreement that exists between both and Griezmann will be Barca’s in the summer 100%.’

Shot down

However, speaking in an interview with Vicente Ortega earlier today ahead of Atletico’s top-of-the-table clash with Barcelona this weekend, Rojiblancos President Enrique Cerezo was questioned on the intensifying reports surrounding Griezmann’s future, with the 70-year-old insistent that no agreement between the Frenchman and the Blaugrana exists:

‘The only thing that Griezmann has signed with Barcelona is that he will try to score 3 or 4 goals (this weekend).’

Catalunya bound

But Cerezo’s claims have this evening been shot down by the reliable Cat Radio (regarded by many as the go-to source for Barcelona news), who have backed Sport’s report that Barcelona have reached an agreement with Griezmann, ahead of activating the Frenchman’s 100 million Euro release clause this summer.

The report goes on to claim that Griezmann could well be the only major arrival at the Camp Nou this year, with Brazilian midfielder Arthur set to join the Blaugrana from Gremio next January.
