'I am waiting for that opportunity' - £10.8m-rated Everton star hoping for chance under Allardyce

Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori is hopeful that Sam Allardyce will soon hand him a first-team recall following a long spell on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old has not played for Everton since picking up a serious knee injury in March 2017.

The centre-back, who is valued at £10.8m by transfermarkt.co.uk, recently returned to action for Everton’s Under-23 team, but the Argentine is yet to feature for the first team under Allardyce.

The Toffees have had their problems defensively this season, and Funes Mori is hopeful that he will be given the opportunity to stake a claim for a starting position in the final months of the 2017-18 campaign.

Funes Mori told evertontv:

“Of course it’s difficult, being injured for a long time. It’s tough but I had support from my family and I’m very strong mentally. I’m very happy to be fully fit, and I’m looking forward to joining the team.

“It’s difficult when you’re injured and a new manager comes in. It’s tough because you want to show what you can give to the team and to the club.

“But he knows every player, I think he has given opportunities to every injured player that’s come back so I am waiting for that opportunity also.”

Funes Mori spent four years in the River Plate first team before joining Everton in the summer of 2015.

The 19-time Argentina international made 37 appearances during his first season with the Merseyside club, and also featured on 26 occasions last term before picking up the injury that would see him spend almost 12 months on the sidelines.
