Neymar’s entourage reveal positive injury news ahead of Real Madrid

As per a source close to Neymar this evening, the Brazilian’s ankle injury is not as serious as was first feared, with a slim chance remaining that the 26-year-old could be fit to face Real Madrid in the Champions League next week.

Matchup

PSG went head to head with Marseille in a Ligue 1 edition of Le Classique at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night, with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani either side of a Rolando own goal handing the hosts all 3 points.

Unai Emery’s men are now a massive 14 points clear of 2nd-placed Monaco in the Ligue 1 table, and look absolutely certain to regain their French top-flight crown come the end of the campaign.

Crocked

However, while things continue to go swimmingly for the capital giants on the domestic front, the European endeavours of PSG took a major hit a fortnight ago when Real Madrid came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over the French side in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

And whatever hopes the Ligue 1 champions-elect had of overturning this deficit in the second-leg looked to have taken a potentially-fatal blow on Sunday, following a serious-looking injury for world-record signing Neymar.

The Brazilian, who picked up the assist for his side’s 3rd in the 55th-minute, badly rolled his ankle with 15 minutes to go in the clash, before immediately going to ground in major discomfort:

As can be seen in the clip above, Neymar was subsequently stretchered off in tears, with the worst-case scenario of missing not only PSG’s upcoming matchup with Real Madrid on the 6th of March, but also this summer’s World Cup with Brazil, no doubt racing through the mind of the 26-year-old.

Disagreement

Reports have since widely varied regarding Neymar’s condition, with some suggesting that the world’s most expensive player may require surgery, whereas others, including PSG boss Unai Emery, have vehemently denied such claims:

‘Neymar is not going to be operated on. That’s not true. I talked to the doctors and we’re still to make a decision,’ Emery revealed in a press conference earlier today.

‘Less serious’

And, as per a source close to the Selecao superstar (via L’Equipe) this evening, Emery’s comments look to be on the money, with the severity of Neymar’s problem seemingly not at the level that was first feared:

‘It’s less serious than we feared, but we must still be patient.’
