'Don't understand Klopp's obsession' - Loads of Liverpool fans slate manager's crucial decision
Liverpool left themselves needing a win at home to Napoli in order to qualify from their Champions League group as they lost 2-1 away at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, and many fans blamed the result on Jurgen Klopp’s team selection.
The main gripe among fans on Twitter was the midfield three of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum, who all struggled to both create anything for the front-three and provide adequate protection for the back four.
The Reds were behind after just 13 minutes as Spanish full-back Juan Bernat beat Alisson with a low finish after Virgil van Dijk’s poor clearance.

PSG then doubled their lead around 25 minutes later as Brazilian star Neymar was allowed to run straight through the centre of the park and eventually finish a rebound from just outside the six-yard box.
Milner did pull one back for Klopp’s side from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, but other than this the Liverpool midfield were outclassed by Marco Verratti.
We’ll never know if things could have been different had Klopp started any of the summer signings, Fabinho, Naby Keita or Xherdan Shaqiri, who were all sat on the bench but many Liverpool fans were not happy with the German’s call.
Check out some of the reaction below.
Don’t care if that midfield got us to a final last year tbh. What did they win? Can’t take the next step with players who can’t
Klopp NEEDS to realise this otherwise it’s ANOTHER season without trophies.#LFC

Klopp really needs to start either one of Keita or Shaqiri, or maybe even both. There's no creativity, intensity or drive from the midfield three that played last night.

When you sign a new deal until 2023 to win trophies and Klopp keeps playing a Gini-Hendo-Milner midfield pic.twitter.com/ohxKVNVWId

Klopp would make himself look like a fool if he starts a midfield trio that played last night. Delusional. Hasn't been a single game this season at least on away turf when Milner, Henderson and Wijnaldum have done justice. #LFC #PSGLIV

Now I don’t understand Klopp’s obsession with this particular midfield unit, but stats don’t lie. The idea about them giving us defensive balance is rubbish and a total myth. He must abolish it especially when we have quality options on the bench #LFC

Just caught up with the game. That midfield was shocking. Kloppo got that wrong. Also the Gomez decision is baffling. In the end our “slow start to season and we will hit form” mantra caught up with us. A win at home shouldn’t be beyond us in the last game #Lfc

Looking back at the game in the cold light of day and I don't think we should ever play a midfield trio of Henderson/Milner/Wijnaldum again because they lack pace and dynamism and limits our attacking options. #ucl #LFC #YNWA

We keep playing the Henderson-Wijnaldum midfield which clearly doesn’t work. Keita is world class while Henderson isn’t even top 4 quality… he insists with those 2 yard backpasses so that our defenders can kick it long.

The LFC midfield with Hendo, Milner and Gini, as much as I love them, not good enough against the top teams. Need to blood Keita and Fabinho into a 4-2-3-1 system…#lfc #LiverpoolFC https://t.co/1oBuO8atB3
