Video: Rafa Benitiez quite simply deserves more respect at Newcastle

Forget Istanbul – Rafa Benitez’s finest hour has been keeping Newcastle fans happy for two and a half seasons. Unfortunately, the Spaniard’s patience is, once again, being pushed to the limit by club owner Mike Ashley.

Despite winning the Championship and then finishing in the Premier League’s top 10 with virtually the same crop of players, Ashley still has the audacity to insist he sign a new contract before committing any transfer funds.

Benitez has performed quiet miracles on Tyneside since taking over in 2015 and the fans know it. Unfortunately, the man who employs him doesn’t seem to realise that fact. He needs to do so soon because, as the saying goes, “you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.”
