Opinion: Arrival of former Barcelona ace at Middlesbrough would soften Traore's exit
According to TEAMtalk, Middlesbrough are interested in signing Brentford attacker Sergi Canos this summer as Adama Traore prepares to leave the club.
What’s the story?
Boro face a very tough task when it comes to keeping hold of Traore this summer, and it does appear that the former Barcelona youngster will move on ahead of the new season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers continue to be linked with a move, and Boro have every right to hold out for the best possible price.
According to TEAMtalk, the Championship club’s head coach Tony Pulis is aware that Traore is likely to leave ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, and has identified Brentford attacker Canos as a possible replacement.
The 21-year-old joined Brentford from Norwich City in January 2017, and there is no question that he is one of the most talented players in the second tier.
Should Middlesbrough make a move?
Brentford will be desperate to keep hold of Canos this summer, but Pulis looks to be putting together a squad capable of challenging for promotion in the coming season.
Canos, who represented Barcelona as a youth, made his professional debut at Liverpool during the 2015-16 season before moving on to Norwich.
The former Spain Under-19 international had an unhappy time at Carrow Road, but joined Brentford on a permanent deal in January 2017, and scored three times in 30 Championship appearances last term.
Canos is a completely different player to Traore, but there is no question that he has the credentials to be a star at the Riverside Stadium.
It is unlikely that Boro would have to break the bank to sign Canos this summer, meanwhile, and he could play a key role in their promotion bid during the 2018-19 campaign.
