Opinion: Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds will 100% live to regret sanctioning big-money move

According to reports in The Yorkshire Evening Post, Ronaldo Vieira’s future at Leeds United is in doubt after Sampdoria tabled a £7m bid for his services.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Yorkshire Evening Post says the 20-year-old’s time with the Yorkshire club could be coming to an end with the Serie A outfit willing to pay around £7m for the England U21 international.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that while the youngster is happy at Elland Road, he has only been used sporadically by new manager Marcelo Bielsa during pre-season so far, and his playing time is likely to be limited this term considering he will be up against the likes of Adam Forshaw, Lewis Baker, Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich for a spot in the starting XI.

Vieira did start in the friendly against Las Palmas on Sunday but was replaced at half-time, and even though he only signed a new four-year deal last summer it appears as though the interest from Sampdoria could potentially lead to him being sold.

Should Leeds cash in?

While there is no doubt that the £7m fee for a 20-year-old who isn’t a first-team regular is hugely tempting, the Whites must do everything they can to keep Vieira at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire club, who 77% of their fans polled want them to snap up a Sheffield Wednesday star, need to establish themselves as a club that no longer sells their best players now they have appointed Bielsa and are serious about a Premier League return, and they will definitely regret it in the long-term if they do cash in – as they probably do with Lewis Cook who continues to impress for Bournemouth having been sold for £6m.

Leeds need to stand strong, because the England youngster is a player that can and will be key for them in the future, and looks destined for big things based on some of his appearances as a teenager.
