Another Christiansen flop set for Leeds exit to prove club got their recruitment all wrong

Leeds United are looking to send Laurens de Bock out on loan according to the printed version of The Sun on Sunday (July 29, page 63), as cited in The Bristol Post.

What’s the story?

The 25-year-old joined Leeds in January and only made seven league appearances before losing his place to 19-year-old academy graduate Tom Pearce.

The left-back had a particularly torrid time against Derby County and it appears he is not part of new boss Marcelo Bielsa’s plans this season.

According to the report, Leeds are looking to loan out the Belgian defender and Fleetwood Town are said to be interested in securing his services in League One.

Had his chance

Even though De Bock hasn’t been at Leeds for long, he showed he didn’t have the quality required and it’s right for Bielsa to move him on this summer.

They’re unlikely to find a buyer having signed him for an undisclosed fee in January, so a loan move makes sense.

With the arrival of Barry Douglas from Wolves, there’s no need for De Bock to stay on even as cover with Tom Pearce making such a good impression at the back end of last season.

It’s telling that the defender will have to drop down a division to find regular football, and shows that he isn’t cut out for the Championship based on his performances from last season.

The wing-backs will be a key position if Bielsa employs his usual 3-3-3-1 formation and by bringing in Douglas he has added serious quality to the left side of the defence.
