Plenty of Arsenal fans rage at £31.5m-rated ace - 'Get out of my club', 'Sell him ASAP'
Arsenal fans have directed the brunt of their post-Europa League final anger towards one particular moment after losing 4-1 to Chelsea in Baku.
Needing victory to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the Gunners were dismantled as Eden Hazard ran riot in a thoroughly dominant second-half performance.
With a bevy of underperforming players to choose from, the Arsenal faithful have directed their ire at one particular player and one particular action.
In the 78th minute, Mesut Ozil’s nightmare evening was mercifully ended as Joe Willock replaced the World Cup winner. If Ozil’s empty and uninspired performance was bad enough, the leisurely manner in which he departed the pitch with his side in need of three goals was deemed unacceptable.
The German, who is valued at £31.5 million by Transfermarkt, has struggled for consistency this season, providing just two assists in 24 Premier League appearances, but was still rewarded with a starting berth in Arsenal’s biggest match.
Having been dropped for tough games in the past, the attacking midfielder couldn’t find a foothold in this season-defining night and even the most die-hard Ozil fans were unable to excuse his painfully slow trudge to the bench in Baku.
Check out the best of the reaction below!
The scoreline wasn’t as shocking as seeing Ozil walk off the pitch after being subbed like it was a preseason friendly.

Defended Ozil for years and tried to convince myself he cared, but to walk off the pitch like he did when you’re 3-0 down and played like that is the final straw, him and a lot of the squad need to go now

Am I hurt ? YES.
Am I surprised? NO
Arsenal’s problem was well spelt out by the coach… quality is not enough and you also need CHARACTER… seeing Ozil cat walk off the pitch explains it all.— Onye Eze na PortHarcourt (@ChroniclesPH) May 29, 2019
I love Ozil, but I absolutely hated that walk off the pitch when we were 3-0 down. You have to sprint off. I worry that Auba is shaky under pressure too. He looked overwhelmed by that penalty against Spurs earlier this year and he didn’t show up today.

Dear Ozil,
You made me a fan of this club. You played the most beautiful football in the world. You made me love the game. But today was different. I get that people lose ability, but to walk off the pitch like that is awful. Thank you for everything, but we need a change. Bye pic.twitter.com/4Db8zRdcmS

Final note: OZIL HAS TO GO. That walk off was a disgrace to the club, the team and the manager. A leader would sprint off and pump the team up as he leaves.

How can Ozil walk off the ground like we are leading 3-0. It’s time for him to leave. #UELfinal #CHEARS

Ozil get out of my club, Done hardly nothing all match and when you see Hazard on the opposite side making things happen and after you get subbed off just slowly walk off the pitch, the worst thing is that he will not go and stay on £350,000 a week for another 2 seasons.

They might have been ineffective but Ozil’s attitude has infected our squad. I used to love him but watching him walk off the pitch tonight typified what he does to the club. There are obviously more issues outside him but he’s a disgrace and should hold culpability for tonight
