Loads of Man Utd fans have picked up on one word Matthijs de Ligt has said

Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt has spoken about the rumours surrounding his future.

De Ligt had a sensational campaign for Ajax, winning the Eredivisie and reaching the last four of the Champions League.

As reported by Metro, the teenage sensation told RTL: “I am very excited about what the nearest future may bring me, but I am also calm, I see it as a challenge, that is the most important thing.

“There are several options, what I’m doing is seeing which is the best option, it seems logical that one option is better than the other.”

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the Ajax defender and Red Devils fans have really picked up on de Ligt’s use of the word “challenge”, as they are certainly more of a project than Barcelona, who just won La Liga for the second consecutive season and are also reportedly very keen on snapping him up this summer.

De Ligt would be an instant upgrade on United’s current options in the heart of defence, where Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in particular seem to have gone well past their sell-by date.

The Dutch international averaged 4.2 aerial wins, 1.5 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game during Ajax’s epic Champions League run, per Whoscored, that saw them only stopped by Tottenham’s incredible second-half comeback.

Here’s a look at how United fans on Twitter have been reacting to de Ligt’s use of the word “challenge”…
