BT pundit jumps to Chelsea man's defence after eyebrow raising Europa League final antics

Rob Green announced his retirement from football on Friday afternoon just two days after he rounded off a 23-year career by picking up a Europa League winners’ medal.

Green was one of the first Chelsea players to lift the trophy and was fully within his rights to make the most of it, despite the fact he didn’t make a single appearance in the competition.

This offended some fans who thought Green should not have been so bold with his celebrations.

BT Sport pundit, Jake Humphrey, however, stepped in and defended the ex-England goalkeeper’s celebrations.

The Norwich City fan is correct with his analysis of the situation. Green was simply making the most of his last trophy and this was the perfect send-off for a man who enjoyed a distinguished career.

Overall Green made 636 appearances in his career, with the majority coming during his time with West Ham and QPR as well as others.

He will, of course, be mainly remembered for the horror show he had against the USA in the 2010 World Cup.

He battled back from that setback and continued in the Premier League for another five years

Chelsea signed him last summer from Huddersfield Town to be third choice shot-stopper, and that move has enabled him  his career with some silverware.
