Perfect for Coady and Boly: £13.5m-rated beast would be superb signing for Wolves - opinion

According to French media outlet L’Equipe, Wolves are interested in bringing Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby to Molineux this summer.

What’s the word?

At 22 years of age, Diakhaby is one of the most promising French defenders rising through the ranks at the moment. He was selected as a reserve in their squad for the U21 European Championships this summer, which is a glowing indication of the fantastic season he had.

The centre-back wasn’t a regular in La Liga but played in nine European matches across both the Champions League and Europa League.

However, he’s now attracting the interest of the Premier League with Wolves eyeing a move for him, per L’Equipe.

He’s rated at £13.5m according to Transfermarkt after only arriving in Spain from Lyon last summer.

Defensive frailties to end?

Towards the back end of the campaign there were some defensive frailties starting to appear in the Wolves backline, particularly when Romain Saiss or Ryan Bennett played.

As such, it makes complete sense for the Midlands club to be in the market for another central defender.

Conor Coady and Willy Boly were both exceptional but they can’t do everything on their own. Therefore, the possible arrival of Diakhaby would be perfect for the pair of them.

Given the experience he’s gained at the top level this season they should have no concerns about his ability to adapt.

Boasting a pass success percentage of 91.1% in the Europa League, it’s clear where his strengths lie and his ability to carry the ball forward could prove pivotal when playing as a right centre back.

Wolves fans have been great value this season and now they’ve added another couple of belters to their arsenal of songs. Check them out in the video below…

Against Arsenal at the Emirates in Valencia’s Europa League clash with the Gunners, he played in central midfield and had a superb game, bullying one of the Premier League’s best teams.

The sheer power of the Frenchman was on display in that encounter and it’s his versatility, coupled with his physical strength, that make him such an attractive signing.

Bringing in another powerful defender, but one with excellent ball-playing ability in Diakhaby’s case, to compliment Boly and Coady would be a masterstroke by Wolves.
