Arsene Wenger’s last loss was ‘unlucky’ according to Jose Mourinho
Unlucky
Jose Mourinho has noted that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was unlucky to taste defeat in his final game against Manchester United – and said that both sides did well during the game.
The Gunners played a side that of course consisted of young players and fringe ones, ahead of their game against Atletico Madrid on Thursday night, and Mourinho made sure to praise the young stars – while also making the point that the change in approach from United in the last part of the game was the reason for their win.
He said: “I think if it was a draw it wouldn’t be unfair I think they did a good game, no pressure for them.
“But they had stability and quality, they defended well, the two young centre backs, did very well.
“And of course we were the team that tried to win and in the last 20 minutes tried to win but that’s normal.
“They had a very positive game but in the end we were a bit lucky to score in the last couple of minutes.
“But we were stronger in the last 20 mins, we changed our approach.”
Europa League
The team Wenger put out made it very clear that the Europa League is their overwhelming priority at this point in the season, and it’s little wonder given sixth place is as high as the Gunners will be able to finish in the Premier League.
Wenger is aiming to end his time at the club with a trophy, and to get the club back into the Champions League as well would certainly be an achievement and a high to go out on.
