£22.5m-rated man will make Tottenham fans forget about Alderweireld - agreed?

Mauricio Pochettino’s principled approach towards the team spirit of his Tottenham squad has seen Toby Alderweireld marginalised almost completely this season, despite being arguably the most talented centre-half in the Premier League. Losing out in big matches such as the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United with a top, experienced defender on the bench must be galling for some Spurs fans and they need a signing this summer to make a clear move on from the Belgian international. One man who has been linked with North London to ease the situation is Matthijs de Ligt, the Dutch international centre-half who currently turns out for Alderweireld’s old club Ajax – where Davinson Sanchez, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen all also emerged from. So; we’re asking you whether the man valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt is a good fit for Pochettino’s men? Let us know by voting in the poll below and keep your eyes peeled for the results in the coming days… from FootballFanCast.

Arsene Wenger Admits After United Defeat He Has Lost Fear Factor for Opposition Fans

Arsene Wenger has admitted that his long-time Premier League rivals are no longer afraid of him, noting that the warm reception he received from Manchester United fans on Sunday owed somewhat to that fact.  A late Marouane Fellaini header condemned Wenger and a second-string Arsenal side to defeat in the Frenchman's last visit to Old Trafford, after Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan had traded goals earlier in the match.  Wenger told BBC Sport: "The players are destroyed because they gave... from All the latest breaking football news, transfer rumours, analysis, and match reports - 90min https://ift.tt/2r9yljQ via IFTTT

'Might cry tears of joy' - Leeds United fans are desperate to do deal for 26-year-old

As reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post , Leeds United are interested in signing Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley this summer. Bartley had a successful spell on loan at Leeds last season, striking up a formidable partnership with Pontus Jansson in the heart of the Elland Road side’s defensive line. Struggling this season to get regular first-team football at the Swans, a return to Leeds could be tempting for the 26-year-old. Leeds could certainly do with the defensive improvement having conceded more than all 13 of the teams currently above them in the English Championship table. Fans are eager for the deal to happen, believing signing the defender could be the start of an exciting summer as the club look to build a squad capable of competing for play-off positions next term. Will his return see an improvement in Leeds’ fortunes? Supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all… Kyle Bartley would be such a good start to the summer #LUFC — Bousfield Blogs Leeds

'Junior level', 'Worse than Senderos' - Rangers fans single out 6ft 1in player after derby loss

Rangers face another demoralising week after a heavy defeat to Celtic, this time losing to the Hoops 5-0 at Celtic Park in a match that saw Brendan Rodgers’ side crowned Scottish Premiership champions. It was the Light Blues’ worst every derby defeat in league action across 128 years of clashes between the two sides. The afternoon was so bad that the club refused to send out manager Graeme Murty or any players to face questions from broadcast or print media after the match. Fans were again left fuming with the performances of Murty’s men, singling out players like Russell Martin for a particularly poor defensive display. The experienced Scotland international failed to adequately cope with the threat of Odsonne Edouard and others in the Hoops attack. Supporters are now hoping he doesn’t make his loan move from Norwich City permanent this summer, with some even stating he is worse than previous defensive flops like Philippe Senderos and Bilel Mohsni. They took to Twitter to share

New top-flight club joins hunt for popular £20m-rated Celtic star

As reported by The Sun , English Premier League side Bournemouth are the latest team to enter the race to sign Celtic star Kieran Tierney. What’s the story? The potential and passion of Tierney was again on full display this weekend as the Hoops thrashed Rangers 5-0 at Celtic Park, with the left-back crucial to the performance and leading celebrations with supporters after the match. Understandable then that he continues to attract interest from the English Premier League. The Sun say that Bournemouth are the latest team to seek the £20m-rated defender’s signature and are willing to battle with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United to land their man. The paper reckon that the Cherries will attempt to lure him south with the promise of regular first team football in the English top-flight. Will Tierney be leaving Celtic? Still just 20 years of age, the Scotland international has plenty of years left at Celtic before entertaining a move away from Glasgow. The clu

Newcastle United could lose key club figure to PL rivals this summer

As reported by The Daily Star , Leicester City are interested in appointing Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez this summer. What’s the story? The pressure is on Claude Puel at the Foxes after they were thrashed 5-0 by Crystal Palace at the weekend, the fourth game in succession that Leicester City have failed to win. The Star report that they are now interested in replacing him with Newcastle boss Benitez this summer, as the club look to achieve regular finishes towards the top-end of the table. The paper say that uncertainty around the future ownership of the Magpies could open the door for Leicester to make their move for the Spaniard. Will Benitez leave Newcastle? Despite all the drama surrounding potential takeovers at St James’ Park, Benitez has shown tremendous loyalty to Newcastle over the last couple of years and appears to have a genuine affinity for the club and their supporters. After a year of consolidation in the Premier League, the Magpies are now well placed

Crystal Palace manager Hodgson talks about miracles being possible

Image
Staying up Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has praised his side for their work since he took over at the club, with Palace going from a club who looked almost certain to go down to a club who are now going to be in the Premier League next season – and who have managed to navigate a host of injuries and a huge amount of uncertainties during the season to now come strong. Despite their great turn around, the manager was full of praise for the players and not himself, and was typically humble when talking to the press. Hodgson said:  “I don’t feel a need to praise myself. “I have received accolades but the bottom line is that Palace supporters don’t come to Selhurst to see me, they come to see the players. ‘What we have achieved comes from what we have laid down at the training ground. We had been vilified after seven games at the start of the season when we didn’t have a win, a point, or a goal and were favourites to go down. “Then we had to take the blows of having 12 first-tea

Arsene Wenger speaks about how successor will benefit from his tenure

Image
Youth Arsene Wenger may be leaving Arsenal come the end of the season, and many people think the north London club need a complete overhaul if they want to compete for the title and top four once he’s gone, but despite that, Wenger himself thinks that the club certainly have one thing going for them – the youth in the side. “My successor will watch this game today,” Wenger said. “Hopefully he will come to positive conclusions of the players. “Can they be part of the future for Arsenal Football Club? I think some of them have shown today yes, 100 per cent. “Maitland-Niles slowly gets to the player I think he can be in defensive midfield. “He can create as well. “Mavropanos in training has shown top quality. But then you always have a question mark as long as you don’t see that under pressure in big games. Can he show that in a big game? You never know. “The big players do better in competition than in training. They make a career. We have many players at our level who do less w

Lionel Messi overtakes Mo Salah as Barcelona secure La Liga title

Barcelona this evening secured the Spanish top-flight title, courtesy of a 4-2 win versus Deportivo La Coruna. Matchup The two sides went head to head at the Estadio Riazor tonight, with hosts Depor having come into proceedings aware that a loss would see them relegated to the Segunda division. Barca, meanwhile, needed just a solitary point to secure the La Liga title, despite having 4 fixtures remaining after tonight. Pep Guardiola speaks about ‘toughest decision of career’ at Man City

Image
Joe Hart Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken about the future of Joe Hart, and claimed that allowing the player to leave the club and not working with him anymore has been the toughest decision of his career. Guardiola has managed at Bayern Munich and Barcelona, but noted that it’s his time at City that has been the toughest in terms of one decision – and that Hart is someone who he always wants to work with. He spoke after the game, and Standard Sport report he said:  “I think it was the toughest decision I ever made as a manager [to let him go]. “Because he is an incredible professional when we worked together and there are no doubts about his quality. “I don’t know what happens in that situation, I think West Ham is going to talk with the club, he is our player and if he is not going to continue here [West Ham] next season I don’t know, now is the first I am hearing that information. “We are going to speak with the club and take the right decision, especially for hi

Arsene Wenger’s last loss was ‘unlucky’ according to Jose Mourinho

Image
Unlucky Jose Mourinho has noted that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was unlucky to taste defeat in his final game against Manchester United – and said that both sides did well during the game. The Gunners played a side that of course consisted of young players and fringe ones, ahead of their game against Atletico Madrid on Thursday night, and Mourinho made sure to praise the young stars – while also making the point that the change in approach from United in the last part of the game was the reason for their win. He said:  “I think if it was a draw it wouldn’t be unfair I think they did a good game, no pressure for them. “But they had stability and quality, they defended well, the two young centre backs, did very well. “And of course we were the team that tried to win and in the last 20 minutes tried to win but that’s normal. “They had a very positive game but in the end we were a bit lucky to score in the last couple of minutes. “But we were stronger in the last 20 mins, we changed

Man United heavily criticised by Sky Sports pundit

Image
Redknapp Jamie Redknapp has been mocked after once again having a pop at Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, with the pundit questioning why Jose Mourinho decided to put Marouane Fellaini on the field against Arsenal instead of Juan Mata. Redknapp made the comments before Fellaini came on and scored the winner, and United fans made it clear how much they felt it was Redknapp once again proving he should only be in the commentary box and not a manager. Redknapp said:  “I’m just thinking about Man Utd from their point of view. The game’s going nowhere at the moment and that little fella there, Juan Mata, what must he be thinking? ‘I’m a creative brain, I need to be on this field to make a difference’ “I get the tactic, and the tactic is No. 27, Fellaini, chasing the ball and if they stick it in the box, they might get a knockdown for a header and it works, it’s a Mourinho tactic that’s worked many, many times in the past throughout all his teams. “But when you want a player at
