Official: Chelsea confirm signing of Emerson with ‘get to know’ video

Premier League champions Chelsea have this evening officially announced the signing of defender Emerson Palmieri from AS Roma.

Talks underway

Following weeks of bizarre links with a vast array of underwhelming targets since the beginning of this month’s transfer window, Chelsea’s fans were finally treated to some positive a fortnight ago, when it was confirmed that the Blues had opened negotiations with Italian outfit AS Roma regarding a double swoop for Emerson Palmieri and Edin Dzeko.

The London giants were hopeful of sealing a deal for around 50 million Euro plus bonuses for the pair, but negotiations subsequently hit a wall over the last week, as the board at Stamford Bridge struggled to agree personal terms with Dzeko.

The uncertainty surrounding Chelsea’s move for the Bosnian hitman led to mounting speculation that Roma could pull the plug on both deals, due to the increasing lack of time set to be available to identify and sign suitable replacements.

1 out of 2

The saga subsequently dragged on with little progress for several days, with the possibility that Antonio Conte was set to miss out on another pair of prime targets having looked more and more likely.

However, as per a huge update from Gianluca Di Marzio last night, a definitive outcome has emerged in the case of both players, with one set to depart the Stadio Olimpico, and one staying put.

Dzeko is the man to remain in the Italian capital, with Chelsea having failed to reach an agreement on personal terms with the former Manchester City man.

Done deal

But, there is better news on Emerson, with the Brazilian full-back having agreed a deal to move to Stamford Bridge for 20 million Euro plus 9 million Euro’s worth of bonuses.

Chelsea made the signing of the Brazilian official this evening, releasing the following video across the club’s social media accounts:
