Petr Cech drops hint that Derby’s Frank Lampard may not get the Chelsea job
Who will be Chelsea’s new manager?
It’s now been a couple of weeks since Maurizio Sarri left Chelsea to join Juventus.
Chelsea have yet to appoint a new manager, as pre-season draws closer.
In fact, Chelsea’s first pre-season friendly is on July 10 against Bohemians.
The Blues start the 2019-20 Premier League season in around six weeks with an away trip to Man United on August 11.
Are Chelsea bungling the appointment of their new manager again?
Of course, turning back the clock twelve months, Chelsea fans will remember how Sarri only took over at Stamford Bridge a couple of weeks before the start of the season after Antonio Conte’s protracted departure.
Petr Cech & Derby County’s Frank Lampard
Most have been expecting Frank Lampard to leave Derby County to become the new Chelsea manager.
But will that actually happen?
Petr Cech, who is now back at Chelsea after retiring from playing football following his time at Arsenal, has dropped a hint that Lampard might not get the Chelsea job after all.
Cech, who is now a director at Chelsea, is quoted in the Times as follows:
The club has identified some of the coaches they are dealing with. The situation is open, Frank is one of the candidates.
I could speak about all the candidates with the leadership, they know my ideas. By the time the first team will start the preparation we would like to solve the coach’s question.
For the record, Cech didn’t specify which other candidates Chelsea are surveying.

Claude Makelele on Frank Lampard
Was Cech simply playing games with his comments on Lampard?
It’s worth noting that Claude Makelele has suggested that Lampard’s switch to Chelsea is happening.
🗣 Makelele: "It's good the ex-legends come back to Chelsea.
“Lampard is ready. He knows what is needed to bring success to the club.
“He's very professional, he focuses on details, focuses on the love he gives for Chelsea.
