Revealed: 73% of Liverpool fans are desperate for exciting 21-year-old to get the nod vs Chelsea

With Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip returning to the fold in recent weeks, Jurgen Klopp now has a wealth of options to choose from at the heart of defence – although Virgil van Dijk is still a doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

The Dutchman’s fitness permitting though, choosing his best partner remains a difficult decision for Klopp – so we passed the responsibility onto Liverpool supporters earlier this week, asking whether Lovren, Matip or Joe Gomez should start alongside van Dijk at Stamford Bridge.

And our poll has revealed that Liverpool fans are almost unanimously backing the 21-year-old, who took an impressive 73% of the vote.

In fairness, that’s more than understandable. Whereas Lovren has always been capable of calamitous performances and Matip’s hardly set the world alight since his move from Schalke, Gomez is an incredibly exciting prospect and impressed as van Dijk’s partner during the opening weeks of the campaign.

Still though, starting away at Stamford Bridge will be a huge test of the England international’s abilities.
