Newcastle should replace Mitrovic with this Russian World Cup star

The Times has reported that Fulham are close to agreeing a permanent deal with Newcastle for the transfer of 23-year-old Aleksandar Mitrovic.

What’s the story?

Mitrovic spent the second half of last season on loan at Craven Cottage, scoring 12 goals in 17 Championship appearances and propelling the club back to the Premier League via the playoffs.

Now it seems that Newcastle are willing to cash-in on the man that they value at £20m, with The Shields Gazette reporting that Mike Ashley has told Rafa Benitez that his transfer funds will come from profits and player sales.

With Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez the only other forwards at the club, this would surely mean that Benitez will be in the market for another striker this summer.

Artem Dzyuba celebrates after Russia win

One man that the Magpies should look at as a replacement is Russia’s World Cup star Artem Dzyuba.

The 29-year-old has never played club football outside of Russia but has a prolific record in the top division and scored six goals in ten matches during his recent loan spell at Arsenal Tula.

With two goals and one assist in the group stages of this summer’s World Cup, Dzyuba has proven that he can perform at the top level at may be worth a gamble for Benitez.

Valued at just €7m by Transfermarkt, the 6ft5 striker could be the perfect replacement for Mitrovic.
