Pep Guardiola plays mind games with Liverpool after Newcastle defeat
Newcastle 2 – Man City 1
Newcastle handed Liverpool an enormous boost in their title hopes on Tuesday night against Man City.
Sergio Aguero appeared to set up the Sky Blues for a comfortable three points when the Argentine scored after 24 seconds.
But the Magpies managed to stay in the game at the break, and Newcastle turned the match in the second half.
Salomon Rondon equalised in the 66th minute, while a Matt Ritchie penalty proved the key goal of the game in the 80th.
Pep Guardiola plays mind games with Liverpool
Naturally, following the defeat to Newcastle, Pep Guardiola was asked whether Man City can still beat Liverpool to the league title.
Liverpool can move seven points clear of City with a win over Leicester at Anfield tonight.
Yet Guardiola isn’t yet will to throw in the towel.
The Spanish boss started up the mind games with Liverpool on Tuesday night as he stated the following:
We’re still in January. There’s a lot of time but of course, when you’re behind the leaders you don’t want to drop points and every game is one less but there are still a lot of matches to play.
A lead of seven points is a lot but we’re not in April or May. There are still many games left and anything can happen.
There are a lot of tough games to play against sides trying to stay in this division, or playing to get into the Europa League or the Champions League. In our case we will do our best to be there and not to give up.
