How Bournemouth neutralised the impact of Chelsea’s Jorginho

Bournemouth 4 – Chelsea 0

Chelsea were battered by Bournemouth in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The Blues lost 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium as Chelsea’s top four hopes took a major blow.

In fairness to Chelsea, they started the Bournemouth match brightly. However Maurizio Sarri’s men collapsed in the second half once Josh King opened.

David Brooks doubled Bournemouth’s lead in the 63rd minute. King completed a brace in the 74th, before Charlie Daniels capped the win with a late fourth.

How Bournemouth neutralised Chelsea’s Jorginho

In recent weeks much has been made of Jorginho’s impact at Chelsea this season.

Many believe that Jorginho has failed to improved the Blues.

For the record, the Italian has yet to register an assist in the league, while his only goal came from the penalty spot.

While Sarri continues to deploy Jorginho in the enforcer role, N’Golo Kane operates in a more wide-right position.

After the Chelsea match, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe revealed how the Cherries neutralised Jorginho’s impact on Wednesday night by deploying David Brooks in a man-marking role on the Italian. Howe said:

It was something we looked at and planned and David did a brilliant job beyond his years with his diligence, and then he showed his class at the other end as well, so I’m pleased for him.

We have always been known for our attacking play but our defensive play needed looking at. We had long periods without the ball so full credit to all of our players. Artur Boruc was superb and his save very early in the match was world class.
