Chelsea’s double injury blow before Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Chelsea

Chelsea have already played and lost one cup final this season.

Earlier in the campaign, Maurizio Sarri’s Blues lost the League Cup final against Man City at Wembley.

Can the Pensioners go one better in the Europa League? If that happens, Sarri will finally win his first major trophy in management.

On Thursday night, Chelsea head to Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt in their semifinal first leg.

Chelsea’s double injury blow

However Sarri appears to have a couple of fresh injury problems to deal with against Frankfurt.

That’s after both Willian and Antonio Rudiger sustained injuries during Sunday’s Premier League match at Man United.

Andreas Christensen replaced Rudiger in the 66th minute. The German centre-half went off with a knee injury at Old Trafford.

As for Willian, the Brazilian was subbed out the Man United game after a horror tackle from Marcos Rojo.

Rojo was fortunate he wasn’t sent off for his challenge on the Blues midfielder.

Speaking after the game, Sarri gave the following updates on his injured duo:

I think the most serious situation is Rudiger, with his knee.

Willian at the moment is in trouble but I think it is only a knock, so we can try to recover him.

For the next match in the Europa League, probably Antonio will be out.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s form is ropey

Eintracht Frankfurt will come into the Chelsea game on the back of successive draws in the Bundesliga.

Frankfurt’s form have dropped in recent weeks as they have two draws, two defeats and only one win in their last five.

Saying that, Eintracht remain fourth in the German top flight as they are on course to play Champions League football next term.
