Man City agree to sign Ferran Torres & begin talks with Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake

Man City agree to sign Ferran Torres

It’s yet to be formally announced, but Manchester City are on the verge of revealing their first summer signing: 20-year-old Ferran Torres.

The Times on Thursday report that Torres is due to join the Sky Blues in a deal worth 20 million pounds. Readers are told:

Manchester City’s summer overhaul began yesterday after they agreed a deal in principle with Valencia to sign Ferran Torres for an initial fee of £20.9 million.

Have any other sources also reported on Man City & Ferran Torres?

Yes.

The Guardian have also confirmed the transfer, although they believe the cost of the deal is slightly higher:

Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Ferran Torres from Valencia for £24.5m (€27m) plus add-ons after successful talks on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, over in Spain, local Valencia-based paper, Superdeporte, have an image of Torres on their front page on Thursday as they also confirm the Man City deal.

Superdeporte claim that Man City will pay Valencia an initial 25 million euros, while they’ve agreed a series of add-ons which are likely to mean Valencia pocket 30 million euros in total.

Who is Ferran Torres?

Torres, 20, is a winger who is usually deployed on the left hand side.

He’s represented Spain at U21 level.

Torres has been developed at the Valencia youth academy.

In 2019-20, Torres scored four goals and chipped in with five assists in La Liga.

Why are Valencia selling Ferran Torres?

Valencia are selling Torres for a few reasons.

Firstly, Torres only had one year remaining on his current contract.

Superdeporte report that Valencia attempted to agree a new contract with the winger, but no agreement was reached.

Indeed, Superdeporte claim that Torres’s agent “is the one who forced this outcome”.

Also, the Spanish paper note that Valencia have been hit hard economically after they failed to qualify for the Champions League while they are also trying to wrestle with the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Did any other clubs try to sign Ferran Torres?

The Times believe that some of European football’s biggest clubs tried to sign Torres. Readers are told:

It is understood that Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund were interested in signing Torres, but he chose City partly because he is desperate to work under (Pep) Guardiola.

When will Man City confirm the Ferran Torres transfer?

Superdeporte claim Man City will announce the Ferran Torres transfer in the next few days.

Moreover, it’s believed that the winger has agreed a 5-year deal to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City begin talks with Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake

It’s been widely reported that Man City are looking to bolster their options at centre-back this summer.

The Guardian today report that City have begun talks with Nathan Ake, who is likely to leave Bournemouth after they were relegated from the Premier League.

How close are Man City to signing Ake? That’s unclear, as the Guardian simply report:

City are also in the market for central defenders and have held talks with Bournemouth over Nathan Ake.

25-year-old Ake is under contract with Bournemouth until 2022.
