Worth a shot: Peripheral WBA man deserves a long-awaited start this week - opinion

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles… West Brom reached the summit of the Championship table for the first time this season as they extended their unbeaten run to a ninth straight game following a victory over Queens Park Rangers. Young Nathan Ferguson, continuing to play ‘out of position’ at left-back, opened the scoring in the second half after his marauding run was topped off with an almost effortless 25-yard strike which beat the QPR shot-stopper all ends up. The victory was then clinched less than ten minutes from time as Matheus Pereira slotted in a free-kick underneath the wall after centre-back Yoann Barbet was sent off for a last-man challenge on substitute Hal Robson-Kanu. Liverpool "close" to swoop for 31 y/o who may impact Harvey Elliott - opinion

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news… Liverpool are looking to add another talented young coach to their ranks, according to The Evening Standard . What’s the story? The report claims the Reds are set to appoint Vitor Matos to a role linking the youth sides with the first-team. Currently at Porto, Matos will be tasked with smoothing the path from the academy to Melwood, a position formerly filled by Pepijn Lijnders prior to his promotion to assistant coach. Matos has worked with Lijnders at the Portuguese outfit, and has operated both as a scout and as an assistant manager for the Primeira Liga champions’ B team, through which many of their players progress before playing for the senior side. The report claims his switch to Merseyside is “close” to being finalised. More youthful exuberance You only need to look at Porto’s transfer history in the last decade or so to see they certa

West Ham fans have an unexpected source of hope amid Lukasz Fabianski blow - opinion

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Injury News series, which considers the impact of the latest updates on players’ fitness West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been ruled out for at least two months, and Irons fans should find comfort in the rise of former stopper Adrian at Liverpool to see how number two Roberto could develop. What’s happened then? Well, the Poland international pulled up in the first half after taking a goal kick against Bournemouth, and it has been confirmed via BBC Sport that he has suffered a torn hip muscle. It means that his ever-present run for the east London outfit in the Premier League since he joined the club on a free will come to an end this weekend, and he may not be back in action until December at the earliest if the initial diagnosis is correct. Chelsea's 2-0 win underlines exactly what Frank Lampard needs to improve - opinion

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more… Chelsea finally earned their first home league win of the season against Brighton on Saturday as they won 2-0, but there will still be one aspect of their performance that will worry Frank Lampard. On the chalkboard The Blues were dominant on Saturday as they beat the Seagulls, with Jorginho and Willian netting the two goals. It is a victory that now pushes the Stamford Bridge outfit up to sixth in the table. They will now travel to Lille on Wednesday in the Champions League in search of their third consecutive triumph in all competitions. Whilst the performance at the weekend was good overall, Lampard will be hoping that his side can be more clinical against the Ligue 1 team. Better in front of goal The 2-0 scoreline was, in the end, far too lenient on Graham Potter and co. Chelsea had 23 shots to their opponents

"Levy messed up big time" - Loads of Spurs fans drool over 2017 target "probably worth £60m now"

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have been drooling over former target Ricardo Pereira’s latest Leicester City performance. The Telegraph reported in June 2017 that the Portugal international was Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice to replace Manchester City-bound Kyle Walker, with Nice demanding around £20m for his services. "You've got to give credit to Lampard" - Sky Sports pundit makes massive Chelsea prediction

Last week was perhaps one of the best for Chelsea since Frank Lampard took over as manager in the summer. After losing against Liverpool 2-1 two Sundays ago, the Blues bounced back with an emphatic 7-1 win in the League Cup against Grimsby Town, before beating Brighton 2-0 in the Premier League. The latter was the Stamford Bridge outfit’s first home league victory of the campaign, whilst it also their first clean sheet . Chelsea’s youngsters were once again on show, with Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori all starting and Callum Hudson-Odoi coming on from the bench. Former Arsenal player Paul Merson was talking about the younger stars on Soccer Saturday ( via The Express ) and he was glowing in his appraisal of them, summing up the optimism currently at the club. The transfer sanction has curtailed the Blues’ ability to bring in new faces, but it has ended up being a blessing in disguise. "Prime Barca incoming", "Just the bitter truth" - Lots of Man Utd fans already fearing the worst

Newcastle may have been thrashed 5-0 by Leicester on Sunday afternoon, but that hasn’t stopped the Manchester United doomsdayers from tipping the Red Devils to lose to them this coming weekend. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have hardly set the world alight this season, and have seen their troubles compounded by injuries to key players in important positions. Wherever things could go wrong, they have gone wrong. United’s decision to let go of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez certainly raised the ire of the Old Trafford faithful, and subsequent injuries to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have just made things worse. After their clash against Arsenal on Monday night, the Red Devils take on Steve Bruce’s Newcastle – a side languishing in 19th in the Premier League table. Despite the Magpies’ lowly position however, United fans took to Twitter to reveal they know a defeat to the Tyneside club is going to be inevitable now. Some supporters of the Manchester side eve

"Not worth £5m never mind £50m" - Lots of Newcastle fans slam "Championship player"

Sean Longstaff may be one of Newcastle’s own, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune from getting criticism for his performances like the rest of his teammates. The 21-year-old enjoyed somewhat of a break-through campaign last season for his hometown club, making nine Premier League appearances and scoring once. His start to the current campaign however has been rather more low-key, with his display in the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester simply underlining that. The central midfielder lost possession 22 times over the course of the game, and it led to him getting a measly 5.9 rating from  Sofascore . After seeing Longstaff’s poor performance, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the 21-year-old. Many supporters of the Tyneside club appeared to point the finger at his fitness and conditioning, with one fan in particular suggesting he “looked like he was towing around a caravan”. Some Magpies fans compared his current form to last season, and insiste

"The future" - These Arsenal fans react as youngster makes "step in the right direction"

It was a busy summer for Arsenal in the transfer window. No less than six new faces joined the Gunners. But, whilst five of them are still with the club and will play this season in England, one will spend it away from the Emirates Stadium. William Saliba, an 18-year-old French centre-back, signed for the north London outfit in July for a fee in the region of £27m , but he was sent straight back out on loan to former club Saint-Etienne. Unfortunately, he has been unable to play for the Ligue 1 outfit so far this season due to injury . Until Sunday, that is, when he made his first appearance of the campaign against Nimes, albeit from the bench. Although he can hardly take too much credit, playing just one minute , it did coincide with Les Verts’ first clean sheet of the season . £15m Chelsea man is fast becoming a flat-track bully after another lacklustre display - opinion

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles… Frank Lampard will be feeling a lot better after his side’s 2-0 win against Brighton on Saturday. The Blues had been without a home win in the Premier League up until this latest match, and had also failed to keep a clean sheet in all competitions. Both were obtained for the first time of the campaign against the Seagulls. Overall, the Blues were dominant with their display, having 10 shots on target to their opponents’ one , and they fully deserved all three points. Along with that, there were some impressive displays that the boss can be proud of. Unfortunately for Ross Barkley, his performance was not one of them. The former Everton man failed to get a grip of the match, despite playing in an important position alongside Jorginho in the middle of the park, and he lost

Mauricio Pochettino comment sums up Tottenham's interesting day vs Southampton

It was a little too close for comfort, but Tottenham got the three points they needed against Southampton on Saturday. After a disappointing night against Colchester United in the League Cup third round in midweek, Spurs were back in action against the Saints in the Premier League at the weekend. And it all started so well when Tanguy Ndombele put his side 1-0 up. However, they were soon down to 10 men following Serge Aurier’s dismissal for two bookable offences, and Danny Ings was then able to level things up just eight minutes later. Fortunately, Harry Kane was on hand to restore the lead just before half-time, and that proved to be the last goal of the game. Mauricio Pochettino spoke after the match and, after the poor week they had, his comments summed up the general feeling at the north London outfit currently. He explained: “We have worked very hard for five years to put the club in the level that no-one expected. That is why now for some results that were not in the w

"Ridiculous", "Atrocious" - Lots of Celtic fans "baffled" by Neil Lennon decision vs Hibernian

The Scottish Premiership table is beginning to look quite interesting. After seven games of the campaign, Celtic are top of the table, as you would expect. But they are only one point ahead of Rangers in second place. The Gers will no doubt be the Bhoys’ main rivals as the latter attempt to win their ninth league title in a row. Celtic were in action on Saturday against Hibernian as they aimed to maintain their 100% record in the league. However, they could only come away with a 1-1 draw from Celtic Park after going 1-0 behind thanks to a Kristoffer Ajer own goal. Neil Lennon’s substitutions were perhaps questionable. For example, Odsonne Edouard, the team’s second top goalscorer this term, was brought off with 18 minutes left on the clock as the home side pushed for an equaliser. The Glasgow outfit’s fans were far from happy with their boss’ changes, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts. You can see some of the best comments from the social media platform belo

"The worst player of the Roman era" - Loads of Chelsea fans slam "shocking" man's awful display

Chelsea finally broke their duck on two accounts against Brighton on Saturday. Not only did the Blues grab their first Premier League home win of the campaign against the Seagulls, but they also kept a maiden clean sheet on their way to a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. It was a dominant performance from Frank Lampard’s side, who had 10 shots on target to their opponents’ one , and there were several impressive performances from his players. Ross Barkley, though, was one who struggled. Playing in the middle of the park in place of N’Golo Kante, who had a hamstring issue and was therefore unable to feature, the former Everton man was caught in possession no less than six times , which was the most of any player on either side. The 25-year-old’s poor display did not go unnoticed by the London outfit’s faithful, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts. "Can't believe how bad", "Like he was hiding" - Loads of Everton fans disgusted with 37-cap man

It really has not been a good start to the season for Everton so far. The Toffees were busy in the summer transfer window, spending over £100m on new recruits, with Moise Kean and Fabian Delph amongst those to join. As such, there will have been hopes that the Merseyside outfit could improve on their eighth-placed finish in the Premier League last term. So far, though, that is beginning to look increasingly unlikely. The Goodison Park side sit 15th and have won just two of their first seven matches. The pressure is already on Marco Silva to turn things around. Against Manchester City, they were expected to lose, and they eventually did 3-1. Alex Iwobi, one of those new arrivals, came on after six minutes following Theo Walcott’s head injury , but was then subbed off again with 17 minutes left on the clock. That sums up his performance. The Everton faithful were not happy with the Nigeria international’s performance, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts. You ca

"Pointless", "Dreadful" - Loads of Newcastle fans disgusted by one man's "shocking" performance

It was a pretty horrific showing from Newcastle United against Leicester City. The north-east outfit lost 5-0 to the Foxes, with the goals coming from Jamie Vardy – twice – Ricardo Pereira, Wilfried Ndidi and an own goal from Paul Dummett. From start to finish, it was one-way traffic, with Steve Bruce’s side failing to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. Of course, they weren’t helped by Isaac Hayden’s horrible tackle on Dennis Praet, which resulted in a red card, but it was still far from good enough from the St James’ Park side. It was a particularly bad day for Yoshinori Muto. The Japan international was making his first league start of the season for the Toon, but he was subbed off at half-time to make way for Ki Seung-yeung. His play when he was on the pitch was not exactly good either. The club’s supporters were far from happy with his performance, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts. "Hopefully he's back" - These Crystal Palace fans issue verdict on star "who grabbed his chance"

Crystal Palace are moving along nicely under Roy Hodgson at the moment. After a difficult summer, which saw few new arrivals and was dominated by speculation of star player Wilfried Zaha potentially leaving the club, the Eagles have started the campaign in decent form, picking up 11 points from their first seven games. In fact, they have lost on just two occasions so far. Their latest victory came against Norwich on Saturday, with goals scored by Luka Milivojevic from the penalty spot and Andros Townsend late on. The latter came on from the bench against the Canaries and took his chance well, and it sees him get his goal tally for the season up and running . He will now be hoping to start the side’s next match away at West Ham. The Palace fans were delighted with the 28-year-old’s performance at Selhurst Park, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts. "All the more sweeter", "Thank you" - Many Liverpool fans jump on chance to mock bitter rivals

Talk about things going to script. On a wet and miserable-looking afternoon, Liverpool made it an impressive seven wins from seven in the Premier League after squeezing past Sheffield United 1-0. Jurgen Klopp’s side were hardly at their best over the course of the game, with their much-vaunted attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino firing a blank from their combined eight attempts on goal . In the end, it took a howler from Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson to give the Reds all three points, and eagle-eyed Liverpool fans were quick to point out something. The 22-year-old’s parent club is Manchester United, and after seeing the shot-stopper’s mistake, they flooded to Twitter to revel in their arch-rivals’ misery. Many Reds supporters sarcastically thanked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for indirectly helping them to another win, and revealed the three points tasted all the more sweeter. Loads of Chelsea fans disappointed not to see this player during Lampard's first home PL win

Chelsea fans want justice for Christian Pulisic after another game passed without him playing a single minute. The Blues beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as Frank Lampard recorded his first home league win as manager. Pulisic, a major signing in the January transfer window, linked up with the club in the summer, having been loaned back to Borussia Dortmund after a £58m deal had been struck. He has started three Premier League games thus far this season but has completed the 90 minutes just once, in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, and was left on the bench against both Wolves and Liverpool. Pulisic did play 90 minutes in midweek, as the Blues thumped Grimsby Town 7-1 in the Carabao Cup, but fans were disappointed that they were not treated to a sighting of the United States international against the Seagulls. Indeed, they took to Twitter as soon as the third substitution was confirmed, with Lampard choosing to utilise his bench to bri
